winter

* * * * *

I went to the park today for to soothe* my soul, it was the first I've been in quite a long time. It had also been a while since I'd taken my Polaroid out. There was thick cloud cover and the light was dim, but things felt good. I'm glad we are past the winter solstice. I'm glad we are done with the time of year that is for endings. We're sitting now in the season that is the peace and quiet of things already dead, we're done with the agony and loss of dying. Now we can sit and enjoy the stillness. Soon we'll be thinking of how new things might begin.

*At first I mistakenly spelled this word "sooth" - a not so erroneous error, as I did go to find truth.

oregon country fair

This weekend a friend and I travelled down to Veneta, OR for the Oregon Country Fair. The Fair was super psychedelic, my outfit was adorable (though I totally failed to document either) and the scenery was beautiful.

I'm out of practice on my Polaroid as you can tell by the blurry shots, but it's hard not to like whatever comes out on that film.

Being out in the country made me more than a little homesick, it's been a while since I've left the city. Unless my mind totally fails me I hadn't been far out of Seattle since a short trip to Portland last July! Good news is I'm on vacation starting TODAY and I plan on spending much time in the country! (And perhaps my adventures will be more thoroughly documented than this one. ;)

Best day.

Today was the best day, for so many reasons. Sunshine. Yard naps. Ukulele. Matching outfits. (>.<) I could go on, but I won't.

These are all double exposures - and I love them, especially the last one. Really fun new experiment!

While I'm here I feel the need to point out that the pictures I take are totally for fun, and are not to be taken seriously (by you or me!) despite the frequency with which I post them. Truth be told, I just love to fiddle with with my camera on an outside day - and the instant prints are so easy and fun to share! Also, not a single one is in the least bit photo-shopped, I'm too lazy for that sort of thing. (It's enough for me to muster a scan and post!) So please, enjoy them as I do - as a simple and joyful diversion, not unlike candy or a popsicle. :D

Pi'tures

Yesterday was the first true summer day I was able to soak in -- and I spent it wandering around in civilization! What's gotten into me?

I've felt a bit uninspired when it comes to pi'ture takin' lately but some new scenery and subject matter made for an interesting outing. I went for a walk to Volunteer Park, then on a casual meander around Capitol Hill where I was introduced to the most wonderful vacant lot filled with wildflowers! Also, there was this strange piece of trash in the street that seemed to be some sort of former tree with lots of plastic tacked on, presumably to make it more convincingly tree-ish... what? Anyway...I love meandering. And wildflowers. And SUN. More sun please!!

chickmas

Mi madres flock. These chickens are just so damn cool. Every time I walked outside a mob would come rushing up to talk at me in their little chicken voices. Telling me who knows what, but I heard all about it! They have dinosaur eye-balls that are remarkably inquisitive and expressive! And, of course, they enjoy snacks. c:

the new year

I was at Mt. Hood for New Years and got to try some new things with the Polaroid. On our last night we visited Timberline Lodge and oh! how I fell in love! I think maybe I want to live there. The lodge itself was incredible, being built completely by hand in 1936 by the WPA. It was full of hand crafted textiles, ironwork, woodwork and more! Plus, outside you can play in the snow however you like and the view of the mountain, even in the dark, is mind blowing! Such a good vibe there!! Here's what I saw during my tromp about:

We arrived right at the beginning of dusk and I'm surprised I got as many as I did, I think all the snow helped by reflecting what little light there was. I'm guessing the green aurora in each is from the cold. I tried a double exposure for the first time and it totally worked! (third down) Very excited to do more of those. I also tried shooting people inside for the first time - and although we had to turn the lights up bright and they still came out dark, it was quite a lot of fun. I hadn't shot people or a group before, I liked the challenge of watching and waiting for just the right moment.
